GUM DISEASE TREATMENT
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a bacterial infection that affects the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. It is caused by the buildup of plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth and gums.
The early stage of gum disease is called gingivitis, which is characterized by red, swollen, and bleeding gums. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, which is a more severe form of gum disease that can result in tooth loss.
Other signs and symptoms of gum disease include bad breath, receding gums, loose teeth, and changes in the way teeth fit together when biting.
Prevention of gum disease involves maintaining good oral hygiene practices, such as brushing and flossing regularly, and visiting a dentist for regular checkups and cleanings. Treatment for gum disease may include scaling and root planing, antibiotics, and in severe cases, surgery.
